About the event

OVERVIEW

Alachua Habitat for Humanity Women Build (WB) group will be starting their 16th house on Saturday, 10/29/2022. WB is a group of women that build Habitat houses for low-income families. The Gainesville Garden Club (GGC) has a great opportunity to partner with WB. In the past GGC has taken on the responsibility of landscaping the house. This consists of designing the plan, acquiring plants/trees/shrubs, and installing. This opportunity won’t happen until late in the Spring of 2023. But, until then, GGC has the opportunity to provide lunches to the hard-working construction volunteers on Saturdays; 15-20 max.

INSTRUCTIONS

The lot has been chosen (3002 NE 14th Drive) and the new homeowner identified. Jill Carter will be the Point of Contact (POC) for the lunches for WB. Typically, a group of women from GGC get together and deliver lunch to the jobsite around 11am. Lunch can be whatever you want. You can go out and buy it premade or make it yourself and deliver it. Most of the WB volunteers are not heavy eaters, especially if it is hot out. Several volunteers are vegetarians, so please always provide an option for them.

DETAILS

Lunch providers get a tour of the house and a chance to meet the homeowner and the supporting volunteers. Plates, silverware, and cups are already at the site. PLEASE NOTE: if you plan on bringing soup/stew to let Jill know so she can ensure bowls and spoons are available. Please note that only two members can sign up for any given date. Contact Jill at  jill_w_carter@outlook.com if you have any questions.
